Tom Brady? Nope. Peyton Manning? Not him either. How about Ben Rothlisburger? He’s close, but no. As of today, it’s now…Eli Manning. Huh?

Yes, Eli Manning, the younger Manning, who just today signed a 6 year contract extension worht $97 million. NINETY SEVEN MILLION! This for a QB who threw 21 TDs last season, or 1.31 per game. 21 TDs, good enough to tie for 10th best in the NFL last season, and only 3 better than Kyle Orton. Kyle FREAKING Orton. Guess how much he makes?
Why would the Giants invest so much money in a QB whose career QB rating is 76.1 and only has a TD:INT ratio of 1.31? I know the guy won you a Super Bowl last year, AND was named MVP, but it’s one game.
Could this be the equivalent of the San Francisco Giants giving Barry Zito $126 million? I think it could be. Sure, Eli had a decent season last year statistically, but are you going to bankroll that much money on a guy who has yet to prove (at least to me) that he’s the real deal?
Let me just ask this. If you had $97 million to spend on a QB right now, who would you take: Brees, Peyton Manning, Cassell, Romo, Roethlisburger, or Eli Manning? Subsequently, would Eli even be one of your top 3 choices? If you answered yes, then you could be the GM of the New York Giants!
Here is your $97 million dollar man.
Well argued. This season will tell alot about that decision, and certainly cause some front office folks their jobs.
Just goes to show that worth isn’t necessarily related to effort or ability.
Wait a second…
I’m glad I picked him in my fantasy whatever the heck it is.
My gosh, when they played the Packers in that championship game..I took notice.
